The Immanuel Lecture Series: Brain Fitness Presented by Carla Hannaford, Ph.D.
Carla Hannaford, Ph.D., is a biologist, author, and educator with more than forty years’ experience teaching and counseling students from elementary school through college-age. As a consultant, she has given keynote presentations and workshops in more than forty-five countries. She has received awards from the University of Hawaii and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and in 2006 was a distinguished lecturer for the National Association for Elementary School Principals.
In addition to school districts, school administrators, and teachers, Carla has worked extensively with musicians, artists, health care professionals, social service agencies, athletes, spiritual organizations, and parents. She is a recognized expert on the importance of movement, music, art and coherence for brain development, life-long learning, and health.
Carla’s published works include Smart Moves: Why Learning Is Not All in Your Head (revised 2005); The Dominance Factor: How Knowing Your Dominant Ear, Eye, Brain, Hand, and Foot Can Improve Your Learning (revised 2011); Awakening the Child Heart: Handbook for Global Parenting (2002); and Playing in the Unified Field: Raising and Becoming Conscious, Creative Human Beings (2010). She is also part of the video productions Education in Motion and Emotions: Gateway to Learning.
Carla is a mother, grandmother, and accomplished musician. She lives with her musician husband, Ahti Mohala, in Hawaii and Montana.
