Advance Directives Workshop with Jenna Justice, Director of Immanuel at Home

Have you documented your wishes for your future? Who speaks for you when you cannot speak for yourself? This Workshop will walk you through the Advance Directive documents and decisions that help ensure that you are in charge of your own healthcare up to and including the end of life.  This important conversation should be a priority for every family, so let’s talk about it —- together!

Documents we will be discussing:

John Hendricks interviewed Jenna Marshall from Human Resources about the great employment opportunities at Immanuel Living during National Careers in Aging Week.

Nursing homes across the state are still recovering and still managing from the effects of Covid.  Please take a moment to view this video from the Montana Health Care Association. All Montana nursing homes are asking for the public and most importantly our Montana lawmakers to hear how Covid has impacted our nursing homes and that more funding from the Medicaid and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) is needed to help support our Montana Nursing Homes to provide the best for our Montana Older Adults who cannot care for themselves and many who have outlived their financial resources.

Individualism is something that everyone craves. Being a part of a group is always significant but being known as an individual is exceptional. That was resident and welcome committee member Frank’s goal when he decided to start carving The Twelve Apostles. These twelve men were highlighted in The Last Supper, but Frank wanted to take the time to tell each individual man’s story through his woodcarvings.

As a new airline pilot, Frank had a lot of time on his hands waiting on-call and decided he needed to spend his newly found time on a hobby. This hobby turned out to be telling stories through the art of carving wood. Frank’s “religious art phase” was exemplified through these pieces, showcasing important aspects of each individual Apostle and who they each were as individuals.

Easter Sunday, Frank is displaying an additional piece to this collection – make sure to stop by the corridor outside the BHT Auditorium to take a look at Frank’s beautiful set.

Immanuel Living is proud to announce that the City of Kalispell has bestowed an Architectural Design Award on the Cottages at Buffalo Hill residential project, along with its architect MMW Architects and contractor Davidson Construction.

One feature setting the Cottage design apart is that the homes “very inviting and livable outdoor spaces, with shade and shelter from the weather,” said Julia Pierrottet, committee chair.

Each of the independent-living patio homes includes a covered front porch and fenced front yard, with a view of the golf course. The cottages offer modern design features and easy access, with no stairs to climb to enter either the front door or attached garage.

Pierrottet praised how the homes’ “good-sized windows” and how each displays a unique look and layout, while the full project maintains a cohesive look by using similar materials and paint colors. The Cottages also fit their surroundings, she said. “They’re an excellent fit for the adjacent residential neighborhood.”

The Cottages were one of two local projects the Kalispell Architectural Review Committee chose for special recognition. The committee began the award program in 2010 to “acknowledge quality development in the community … encouraging originality and innovation to protect and enhance the city’s character and appeal.”

Partnership Addresses Community Need for More Integrated Housing and Healthcare to Serve Aging Population

St. Peter’s Health today announced plans to develop a senior living community in Helena. The local nonprofit healthcare system is working with Immanuel Living, a Kalispell-based Immanuel Living subsidiary, Sawgrass Partners and MMW Architects to design, finance, and construct the community. The proposed project will include independent and assisted living options as well as a memory care facility. The healthcare system is currently under a buy-sell agreement for land in Mountain View Meadows on Helena’s eastside.

The US Census Bureau estimates that 30 percent of Montanans will be over 60 by 2030.”We are excited to embark on this new project to fill an important and growing community need,” said St. Peter’s Health CEO Wade Johnson. “It’s heartbreaking that when many people in our community reach the point in their lives where independent living is no longer the best option for them, they aren’t able to stay close to their loved ones, in the place they’ve called home. Senior Living communities are growing in popularity around the country because they’re designed with the aging population in mind and include convenient, on-site access to health care and other amenities that make living independently more comfortable.”

The development of a senior living community is an emerging but growing trend for healthcare systems nationwide. It is one more way healthcare organizations can help patients improve and maintain their health outside of the clinic or hospital walls. “This is just one more way that we’re expanding our integrated care model,” said Johnson. “We recognize that factors outside of care received in a hospital or doctor’s office determine the majority of someone’s health – the food we eat, our housing, our access to transportation and our sense of community. That’s why we’re committed to developing a place that prioritizes things like open spaces, walking trails and communal areas, as well as access to medical care in or near the community itself. “

Immanuel Living and other project partners have extensive experience developing and operating senior living communities. In early August, the organization announced plans to build a new community in Libby, Mont. and is actively planning projects in Polson and Missoula, Mont. “We have been working with partners to construct and manage senior living communities for nearly ten years,” said Immanuel Living President and CEO Jason Cronk. “Our values align with those of St. Peter’s. A good demonstration of this is the shared use of the word “loving” in our organizational values. Together, we plan to create and operate a community that is focused on our residents’ dignity, and treating everyone with loving-care and kindness.”

St. Peter’s Health encourages anyone interested in learning more to visit www.sphealth.org/lifeplancommunity  and fill out the interest form. (This is not a wait-list.) The organization partners plan to hold visioning meetings with prospective residents in fall 2021. Partners expect to begin taking reservation deposits in spring 2022.
